A carriage clock is a type of clock used first by 19th century travelers who normally journey through towns and cities for a long period of time. The clock is different as they are usually small in overall size, the casing is rectangular in shape, works in a spring-driven mechanism, and are built with a small handle for easy carrying. An antique carriage clock dates back all the way in the 19th century and are popular in European countries like Austria and England. And even if they are considered travel clocks, carriage clocks are normally larger than the conventional types since they need to be of the right size to contain the spring-driven mechanism of the carriage clock.
Today, people who are fond of antique furniture and pieces that have long histories enjoy the idea of having a brass carriage clock around the house. They would keep them on display inside glass cabinets and shelves or would even get them to work in order to function as a normal clock for the home.
