Everybody needs to learn or be able to tell time, even children. There is a time for everything according to the book of Ecclesiastes. So, for children, young and teens (who need to be reminded more often), there is a time to eat, a time to sleep, a time to study a time to play and a time for their favorite kids show. Adults need to set these times for them. So to remind children of these times, they need something to look at. Since adults have simple, utilitarian to lavish adult looking wall clocks, children need children wall clocks.

So what makes a wall clock a childrens wall clock? For starters, there is no need for elaborate wrought iron carvings or matte finishes. Next, we can split kids into two age groups. The first group would be three to ten year olds. The second group would be pre-teens to young teens.

For the first group, children wall clocks need to be big. They need to be readable. Let’s not expect a preschool child to read roman numerals or numbers written in curly script on the clock face. The clock should be able to catch their attention so children’s wall clocks need to be colorful as well. Children should be able to appreciate or relate to them so children wall clocks should have a design that they like. For instance, Pooh Bear holding a jar of honey and there is a clock face on the jar or a wall clock version of Robert Langdon’s Mickey Mouse watch. You could ask a child what hour Mickey Mouse or Bugs Bunny is pointing at and he’ll answer right away.

As kids grow, you’ll have to upgrade their clocks as well. For pre-teen girls for instance, a nice pink wall-clock with a picture or Barbie or Hello Kitty on the clock face would be excellent. An NBA team logo or a Transformers symbol on the clock face would be perfect for boys, if one is available.

There are children wall clocks made from every major kid’s franchise from Disney to Hot Wheels. When I was a kid, I used to have one with the Ghostbusters logo on the clock face. Wall clocks for children come in a variety of different shapes, sizes and designs. And since they are wall clocks for children, they should be affordable. I bought one for my daughter’s room for under five dollars. It has a pink, glow-in-the-dark frame with glow-in-the-dark hands with the character Hello Kitty on the face.
Kids should learn to value time at an early age. If you still don’t have a children wall clock in your child’s bedroom, you need to get one right away.
