Tired of the old and boring look of your desk? Why not let your creative juices flow and create your very own desk decors? Start with your desk clock for a more enjoyable timekeeping.
Designing your own clock is fairly easy. You will only need a clock mechanism, battery, a pre-cut blank clock casing or a clock base, and your preferred decors. You can choose to paint your clock, wrap it using wall paper, or just decorate it with stickers. These materials can be easily found in any craft or hobby store.
Make sure that you choose an appropriate base for your clock. Check the size and see if it is big enough for you to easily tell time. Keep in mind that a larger base will occupy space in your desk so you might want to consider getting a smaller or medium-sized clock casing. Likewise, the clock works must also fit the clock base. Pick one with hand sizes that will fit your clock base. The hand mechanism of the clock must also be able to move freely through the clock base or casing.
If you wish to decorate the base so that the clock hands appear in front of a personalized background, you may do so. You can glue a photo or a colored paper onto the base prior to setting the clock mechanism. Remember to use quality adhesives to ensure that the glued parts will stay in place.
Next, see if there is a hole in the center of the base. If there is none, drill a hole on the base to fasten the clock mechanism. To ensure that everything is in place, glue the clockworks using industrial strength glue. Ensure that no glue is applied on the moving parts of the mechanism. Allow the glue to dry before continuing with the decoration. Once the glue has dried, you can now add markers or numbers and customize the face of your clock. But note that raised markers can interfere with the clock’s hand movement so make sure that the decors you add fit the clock structure well.
Install the hands of the clock last and make sure that you follow the instructions stated in the clock work package. If you use a clock base with no casing, you have to provide a stand for it. You can use a small photo frame holder as a desk top clock stand.
If your savings is not enough to purchase a Howard Miller desk clock, Bulova desk clock, an atomic desk clock or even a simple digital desk clock, then just utilize your creativity and save yourself some cash. This DIY desk clock can also be a good personalized gift to your busy friends; it can serve as a reminder for them to take some time off and indulge themselves into less stressful activities – like what you just did.
